Skills-based DBT for complex emotional challenges

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed by your emotions, stuck in patterns you can’t seem to change, or you’re just trying to get through each day, we get it. You’re not alone, and you don’t have to figure it out by yourself.

At Mental Health Systems, our DBT for Adults group programming offers structured, compassionate support to help you build skills, find stability, and start feeling more in control of your life again.

We offer several options to meet you where you’re at, including 1-Day, 3-Day, and State-Certified Adherent programs. During intake, our clinicians will determine the appropriate level of care for each individual.

Three ways to build the skills you need

Each program offers the same core DBT approach at a different level of intensity. Your clinician will help match you to the right fit during intake.

1-Day

This program is best for adults who need skills support at a lower level of care than our 3-day program offers. This group meets once a week, for three hours. Individual therapy with an outside therapist or MHS therapist is required to support the group process. This may vary based on insurance.

3-Day

This program is ideal for adults who need intensive skills-based support. It meets three days a week for three hours each session. To support the group process, individual therapy with an outside therapist or MHS therapist is required. This may vary based on insurance.

State-Certified

Our State-Certified Adherent DBT Intense Outpatient Program is ideal for adults who are seeking structured, intensive, skills-based support. This program meets once a week for 2.5 hours, plus an individual therapy session with the group therapist. It also includes 24/7 skills coaching via phone as needed.

Are one of these programs right for you?

This program may be a good fit if you’ve been experiencing things like:

  • Emotions that feel intense, unpredictable, or hard to manage
  • Thoughts about harming yourself or ongoing urges to cope in ineffective ways
  • Feeling stuck in cycles of impulsive or reactive behaviors
  • Struggles in relationships, work, communication, or daily routines
  • Trying therapy before, but feeling like it wasn’t quite enough or not the right fit

If any of this sounds familiar, this space is designed for you.

What is DBT?

DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) is a skills-based approach that helps you navigate life more effectively, especially when things feel overwhelming.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Understand and manage difficult emotions
  • Get through challenging moments
  • Build healthier, more stable relationships
  • Create more consistency and structure in your daily life

We focus on real-life tools you can actually use, right away.

What to expect

This program offers more support than traditional weekly therapy by combining:

  • Skills training and application
  • Symptom identification / tracking
  • A coordinated team approach to your care

We’ll work with you to find the right level of support based on where you are, and adjust as your needs change over time.

This program is also available virtually through our secure telehealth option, making it easier to access care from wherever you are.

Working with your current therapist

If you already have an individual therapist, you may be able to continue working with them while participating in our 1-Day or 3-Day programs. You will need to work with your group leader in the State-Certified DBT program, per state requirements.

We aim to complement – not replace – the support you already have whenever possible.

Insurance

We accept most major insurance plans, including State insurance. We verify coverage prior to your first appointment so there are no surprises.

A small sampling of the insurance we accept includes:

In-person vs Virtu-clinic

There are many factors to consider when determining if in-person or virtual DBT programs are the best fit. Our statistics show the outcomes are similar for in-person versus online DBT, so it’s a matter of preference and your needs. Our clinicians can help you decide the best option for you during the intake.

In order to participate in virtual services, you need a secure, private location, ability to have camera on during the entire group session, and be physically in the state of Minnesota.
