DBT Trauma Recovery Program
RISE: DBT for Trauma Stabilization
Stabilization-focused DBT for adults affected by trauma
If you’ve experienced trauma, you might notice that your body and emotions don’t always feel steady or predictable. You may feel on edge, shut down, or overwhelmed in ways that are hard to explain – or difficult to control.
That’s not a failure. It’s a common trauma response.
RISE (Recognize Symptoms, Identify Triggers, Skills-Based Response, Evaluate Results) at Mental Health Systems is designed to help you feel more grounded, more stable, and more in control, so you can begin to move forward at your own pace without reliving your trauma.

Is RISE right for you?
This program may be a good fit if you’re experiencing:
- Emotional reactions that feel intense, sudden, or tied to past experiences
- A constant sense of stress, alertness, or feeling “on edge”
- Moments of shutdown, numbness, or feeling disconnected from yourself
- Difficulty staying regulated enough to fully engage in therapy or daily life
If trauma has been getting in the way of feeling stable or moving forward, this program is here to meet you where you are.
What this program is designed to do
RISE focuses on psychoeducation and stabilization first, because before deeper trauma work can happen, your system needs to feel safer and more supported.
This isn’t about pushing you to revisit trauma before you’re ready. It’s about helping you feel steady enough to take the next step when the time is right.
You’ll learn how to:
- Reduce overwhelming and emotional reactivity
- Build skills to calm your mind and body
- Stay more present and grounded during difficult moments
- Create a stronger sense of internal stability
What to expect
RISE offers a structured level of care that goes beyond traditional weekly therapy, including:
- Skills teaching and application
- Symptom identification / tracking
- Psychoeducation on rewiring trauma neurology and retraining the nervous system
- A coordinated care team supporting your progress
Everything in this DBT program is paced with trauma in mind. We move at a speed that supports stabilization, not overwhelm.
We’ll work with you to determine the right level of care based on your needs, and adjust as you begin to feel more steady.
RISE is also available virtually through our secure telehealth option.
Working with your current therapist
If you already have an individual therapist, you may be able to continue working with them while participating in RISE. Our goal is to support and strengthen the care you’re already receiving.
Insurance
We accept most major insurance plans, including State insurance. We verify coverage prior to your first appointment so there are no surprises.
A small sampling of the insurance we accept includes:
In-person vs Virtu-clinic
Choosing between in-person and virtual DBT depends on your individual needs, preferences, and circumstances. Our outcomes show that both formats can be equally effective, so the best option is often the one that feels most accessible and sustainable for you. During the intake process, our clinicians can help determine which format may be the best fit for your goals and support needs.
In order to participate in virtual services, you need a secure, private location, ability to have camera on during the entire group session, and be physically in the state of Minnesota.
